The day was established in 1979 and has been marked in London for more than four decades. Police attempted to disrupt this year’s event by imposing restrictions, deploying a large presence and arresting several participants during the demonstration. It is not yet known whether the police move was carried out independently or under pressure from pro-Israel lobbying groups.
