Borno Governor Hosts High-Level Delegation, Seeks Strengthened Humanitarian and Development Support
On 3 February, Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Umaru Zulum hosted a high-level delegation in Maiduguri, led by the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Nigeria, and the Ambassador of Egypt. The delegation comprised distinguished Ambassadors from a diverse group of Member States, and humanitarian partners, accompanied by the Honourable Federal Minister of Humanitarian Affairs and Poverty Reduction, Bernard Doro. During the visit, the delegation witnessed firsthand the challenging living conditions of IDPs and the emergency interventions and longer-term solutions being implemented by the State Government and humanitarian partners.
During the visit, the Deputy Governor of Borno, Usman Kadafur, led the delegation to several State-supported projects that showcased ongoing efforts to improve access to quality education and health care, as well as livelihood support.
The delegation visited the nutrition stabilization centre in the Umar Shehu Hospital, managed by the International Rescue Committee (IRC), with funding from the Nigeria Humanitarian Fund (NHF), where they observed the treatment and care of malnourished children. At the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Government Day Secondary School in Mafoni, they saw progress in expanding educational opportunities for young people.
