UNICEF South Sudan has issued an urgent flash update indicating a deteriorating situation for children in Jonglei state, where violence and conflict are raging. Key points include: 100,000 are estimated to have fled to Ethiopia from Akobo town after the evacuation order was issued. Akobo hospital was looted and closed 28 health and nutrition facilities have been destroyed or looted since January 1st. Health, nutrition and clean water and sanitation supplies have been stolen in 17 incidents countrywide, 80% in Jonglei Rates of malnutrition amongst displaced children are worryingly high – a quarter of all children under five are malnourished UNICEF has delivered 220 metric tons of supplies to displaced populations in some of the affected areas – access remains a challenge in some areas All details are in the attached Flash Update.
