Country: Nigeria Source: Médecins Sans Frontières 17 March 2026 - Three suicide attacks were reported in Maiduguri, Borno State, Nigeria, on Monday 16 March, killing 23 people and injuring more than 100. Médecins Sans Frontières/ Doctors Without Borders (MSF) sent medical teams to support the authorities in treating the wounded at two hospitals in Maiduguri where 108 patients received treatment. “We arrived at night at the State Specialist hospital. The Emergency room was full of patients with different kinds of traumatic injuries. We helped stabilse them, dressing wounds, and referred the critical ones to the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where we had another MSF medical team supporting the Ministry of Health with both triage and stabilisation of the injured" said Dr Alain Kikwaya, MSF Medical Team Leader in Maiduguri. The blasts, which began shortly after 7:00 pm, targeted several locations. The main gate of University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), where MSF supports the Diphtheria Treatment Unit (DTU) was targeted in one of the attacks. No patients or staff in the DTU were injured in the incident. --ENDS--
